The Innovation Forum Hong Kong is proud to have invited Mr Andrew Young, Associate Director (Innovation) of the Sino Group to shed light on “Nurturing Successful Start-ups in Greater Bay Area, China – Turning Ideas into Real World Solutions”. Mr Young will share his experiences and insights, as well as discussing various issues with some successful players in the field.

In recent years, the Hong Kong SAR Government has been working with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP), Hong Kong Cyberport, universities and agencies to build technology clusters in key sectors, notably biotech, IT, green technology and precision engineering.

Innovation and entrepreneurship in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area are on the rise. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2016-17 (GEM), Hong Kong and Shenzhen have experienced an explosive growth in the start-up support ecosystem. To enhance competitiveness in the Hong Kong-Shenzhen megalopolis, academic scholars have made the following recommendations:

• Joint development of new industries, including medtech, fintech, e-commerce, internet-of-things and smart city
• Joint R&D initiatives aiming at cross-border innovation, sharing of knowledge and talents
• Coordinating government policies for entrepreneurship between the two economies, such as joint visas for entrepreneurs that would facilitate cross-border operations of many start- ups

Furthermore, the eco-systems of entrepreneurship in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area, China are taking up leading role(s) in China’s next stage of economic development.
